Suggestions for Using Forums

Before posting commentary to the forums, you may want to peruse this list of helpful suggestions. The goal of Across the Fence is to encourage lively dialogue and share information among people who are current or past residents of a community with those who might considering purchasing in that location. Because there are so many diverse opinions, especially on the topic of real estate, we encourage users to seek out multiple viewpoints and of course, visit the community in person.

Across the Fence is not to be used as an opportunity to disparage the place another person calls home. We have deliberately not incorporated a ratings system on Across the Fence because we believe that there are so many nuances and complexities about a community, that unlike a hotel or restaurant, assigning a simple rating to it would not do a community justice. We encourage all Members and Businesses to be civil and professional when describing a community and its residents.
When writing your comments, please be sure to describe your personal experience and not that of others. We want to make sure that the comments accurately reflect what a person could expect from a community. Factual elements can be lost or misconstrued when passed from one person to another (remember the telephone game?).
Generally speaking, Across the Fence will not post any comments that contain:

  • profanity
  • personal insults
  • threats
  • information that violates privacy
  • promotional information

Did you have a bad experience while visiting a community, or during the sales process? Remember, the employees who work at a community are people, too. It’s fair to describe your experience, but let’s leave employees’ names off of the forums (unless you want to compliment someone). Their bosses will know who you’re talking about anyway.
